Considered as the worst case of election-related violence and the single biggest and deadliest attack on journalists in the Philippines, it took ten long years to get the people involved in the crime convicted. It is worth note taking that not everyone involved in the crime had been held responsible, yet. 28 are convicted, 56 are acquitted, and 15 others are sentenced to lesser sentence in the Ampatuan massacre last December 2019. In a statement, National Union of Journalists of the Philippines stated that the fight is still not over, "We must soldier on until the last of those responsible are behind bars."We stand with the 58! We will never forget the faces slain by the state. We shall continue to fight for the truth, especially in these times of continuing media distress.
